We were extremely lucky this week in 1st class to start our art lessons with Orla Bates. Orla is going to be visiting all four first classes for the next four weeks.
This week Orla read us the story ‘The Tiny Seed’ by Eric Carle. Then we talked about all of the parts of the flower like the seed, the roots, the stem, the leaves and the flower. After learning these words we drew each part of the plant.
We were delighted to use Orla’s water colour pencils to colour in our flowers and we even used sharpies to draw the outline of our plant. Finally, we used water to turn our water colour pencils into paint.
Check out the great work that Ms. Guerrine’s class did on the video!
Keep an eye on the blog to see what we do next week.

In Ms. Guerrine's 1st class we have been learning all about toys. We looked at old and new toys. We also made up a questionnaire to ask our parents and grandparents what they liked to play with when they were small. Some children in our class brought in old toys like a porcelain doll, a Jacob's ladder, a skipping rope and a cup and ball.
