Scoil Mhuire has won an award at the first ever Bord Gais Energy Student Theatre Awards for Primary Schools.
We found out recently that last year's school 'Honk' was nominated for two awards (Best Overall Show and Best Set) at the National Student Theatre Awards sponsored by Bord Gais Energy. So today, 22 6th class pupils and 2 teachers headed off to Dublin for the Awards ceremony. The Bord Gais Energy Theatre (formally the Grand Canal Theatre) was full of hundreds of representatives from primary schools all over the county, all with their fingers crossed in hopes of "Oscar" glory!
Our host Simon Delaney told us it was a great honour to be nominated as only 30 schools were short listed from 250 applications and there were only 10 awards to be won. The ceremony, which included performances and video clips from the nominated shows was very exciting, even more so for us, when it was announced that Scoil Mhuire, Coolcotts had won the award for Best Set! Josh, Nadine and Eoin went on stage to collect the award and were photographed and interviewed.
It was a great day out and everyone was very proud to represent Scoil Mhuire and Wexford. We are thrilled to be one of the lucky schools to win a prize.
