Despite yesterday’s cold, wind and rain almost 700 runners and walkers turned out for our Annual Blue Fun Run in aid of the Rainbow Unit. The inclement weather didn’t dampen the spirits of the serious and fun runners alike, with some running with buggies and dogs.
This year’s Blue Fun Run organising committee kept one surprise very close to their chests until just before the starting whistle. All those assembled were delighted to be joined by Mrs Sabina Higgins, wife of President Michael D Higgins, who launched the event. Mrs Higgins commended in particular the work of Scoil Mhuire families and staff in meeting the needs of their young children with autism. She was delighted to be presented with a bouquet of flowers from mother and daughter team, Ruth and Eve Kelly.
Everyone was very nicely warmed up before hitting the road following the exuberant performance of percussionists Extreme Rhythm, led by Scoil Mhuire parent Nicky Bailey, and a warm-up led by Sonya from Club Vitae in the Maldron Hotel. After the exertions of a demanding route, everyone was warmly welcomed back to Scoil Mhuire with music by DJ Martin Gordon, blue candyfloss provided by Lynda and the SLAM Entertainment team and well-deserved refreshments served by our Rainbow Unit Parents and Scoil Mhuire’s Parents Association. A great day was had by everyone for a very worthy cause.
