February & March in Ms. Sutherland's Senior Infants

Ms. Sutherland's senior infants have been very busy recently learning all about the school and the farm. Our aistear topic for February was the school. We had great fun playing in our role play area. We were pretending to be students, teachers, the secretary, school principal and the caretaker. On our walk around the school we visited Bernard. He showed us his office, let us sit on his ride on lawnmower and answered lots of our questions. We also visited Mr. McDermott who chatted to us about his role as deputy principal and let us feed the fish. We were so lucky that Ms. Jordan invited us to visit her in her office just before the mid-term break. We wrote out some questions we might like to ask her. We had a great time exploring in her office. We even found out that she keeps a secret stash of lollipops and freddo bars, which she so kindly shared with us. When we came back to class after the visit, we wrote out some facts we learned about Ms. Jordan. We also wrote a description of her using our description bubble which we displayed outside our classroom for everyone to see. Ms. Jordan was so excited to read all the wonderful and lovely things that senior infants wrote about her. Check out some of our photos.

March was also a very busy month in senior infants. Our aistear topic was the farm. We made different animals out of play dough and paint. We also designed our own farms in the small world area. It was lots of fun including all the different animals that can be found on a farm. Our first big book stories were 'Farmer Duck'. We loved this story. The farmer was so mean to the poor little duck we felt so sorry for him. We imagined how we would have felt if we were the duck in the story. We also read the story 'Chicken Licken'. He made lots of friends in the story such as Goosey Loosey and Ducky Lucky. We described Chicken Licken using our descriptive bubble. Our teacher gave us some tricky art to do. We were given half of an animals head and we had to draw the other half. Our teacher was so impressed with how they turned out. Here are some photos.

We hope you liked reading about everything that we have been up to and looking at all the wonderful work we have been doing. We are very excited about our Aistear topic for April, the clothes and shoe shop. Stay tuned for updates!!
