The serious preparation for the annual January event begins the previous September as soon as our school teams are finalised through open competition. The teams then meet regularly with their mentors/teachers, developing their general knowledge skills and establishing competition strategies, with each member of the team focusing on particular subject areas.
Quiz night itself is a very competitive night. Only the participating teams from the different schools are permitted into the quiz room itself, with parents and teachers waiting nervously outside until the final results are announced. Our pupils who have participated over the years unanimously agree that participation in the Wexford Credit Union Quiz is a great way to develop their general knowledge, hone their competitive skills, and enjoy working together as a team towards a common goal.
Scoil Mhuire has entered teams in the Wexford Credit Union Quiz since 2008. In 2011, one of our teams reached the All Ireland Semifinal. Our girls and boys performed admirably, narrowly losing out on a place in the All Ireland Final.
Every year, Scoil Mhuire enters a number of teams into both the Junior Competition and the Senior Competition. It is a great opportunity for our pupils to test their general knowledge abilities against pupils from other schools from around the county. The emphasis is on team performance and it is invariably a very enjoyable experience for our pupils.
