Every April, Scoil Mhuire organises a fun family Blue 5km, with lots of serious runners too, to raise funds for Rainbow, our school’s special classes for children on the autism spectrum. All the funds raised, through business sponsorship and participant fees, are used to provide a wonderful programme of equine therapy, social outings, and other fun learning activities for our pupils.
Every year, we’re overwhelmed by the huge support our Blue 5km receives from our Scoil Mhuire families and staff, members of local athletics clubs, our many supporters of Rainbow, and members of our wider school community too. In 2019, we were honoured to welcome Mrs Sabina Higgins, wife of President Michael D Higgins, to officially launch our Rainbow Blue 5Km.
Each year, we are also delighted to welcome back Nicky Bailey and the men of Extreme Rhythm who entertain our runners and walkers with gusto and get them ready for the off.
Returning to Scoil Mhuire after a high speed or gentle 5Km, many participants with buggies or family pets in toe, is always a celebratory occasion with everyone being welcomed back with the usual Scoil Mhuire warmth, hospitality and welcome refreshments.
